Socialist Contingent to the AEU Strike Day
Tue 24 Mar 9:30 AM
Teachers, school staff, and community members standing in solidarity with our strike will be meeting up at the Eight Hour Day Monument for the socialist contingent to the AEU public school strike.
The Victorian government likes to claim the title of the “education state” while schools are in crisis. We have the lowest funding in the country with the lowest paid teachers and school staff in the public system. Rather than properly funding schools, the Allan Labor government cut $2.4 billion from the public school budget through 2031.
Teachers and school staff in Victoria are starting to fight back. On 24 March, we are set to strike for the first time in thirteen years if the protected action ballot is voted up this month.
How to get involved
Teachers and staff should get involved with Socialists in Schools. Here’s how:
Vote yes for the protected action ballot order and discuss further strike actions at your school. Download our strike handbook and follow us on Instagram.
Join our Socialists in Schools contingent on the strike day (9:30am at the Eight Hour Monument). Look for our banner and logo!
Community Members can also get involved:
If you’re a parent of school students, tell their teachers you are looking forward to their strike, and start discussing the strike with other parents you know. This is a handy strike solidarity leaflet you can use. (printable version here)
Take a solidarity photo and email it to Socialists in Schools to show on social media.
Come to the solidarity contingent of the strike on Tuesday 24 March (10am at the Eight Hour Monument in Carlton)
